Be Careful! You Could Be the Next 24-Hour Trend

by vanissadrar | Aug 8, 2026 | JOURNALISM | 0 comments

We are living in an age where privacy and respect for personal boundaries are disappearing day by day. Thanks to smartphones and social media, anyone can become an unwilling subject of public attention in a matter of seconds.

Imagine that something unexpected happens to you in a public place. It doesn’t have to be your fault, nor does it have to be extraordinary. If someone records the moment and uploads it online, it can spread across social media within hours. Before you know it, your face, your reaction, or your most vulnerable moment has become the internet’s latest trend.

Sometimes it doesn’t even take a dramatic incident. You may simply be sitting in a café, walking through a park, or waiting at an airport. A stranger takes a selfie or records a video, and suddenly you appear in the background of a post seen by thousands—or even millions—of people, without your knowledge or consent.

The problem is not only the technology itself but the culture that has developed around it. Many people have become so eager to capture and share everything that they rarely stop to ask a simple question: Should this be filmed at all?

The result is a society in which private moments increasingly become public entertainment. Embarrassment, grief, accidents, and even ordinary daily life can be transformed into viral content, often at the expense of the people involved.

In the digital age, almost everyone carries a camera, but not everyone remembers the responsibility that comes with it. Before pressing the record button or sharing a video, we should ask ourselves whether we are documenting life—or exploiting someone else’s moment for likes, views, and fleeting online attention.

Today, it could happen to anyone. Tomorrow, it could happen to you.
